FAQs

  What's your cancellation policy?

We take a £75 per week initial deposit. The remainder is payable eight weeks before arrival. If the booking is cancelled more than eight weeks before we retain the initial deposit. If it has to be cancelled within the eight week period we will try to relet the cottage and if successful return the full amount less the initial deposit and any expenses we have incurred in doing so.You are advised to take out a travel insurance policy. If you book within eight weeks then the full amount and the damage deposit cheque should be sent, please.

What is your change-over day? Saturdays. You can arrive any time after 4pm and will need to leave the cottage by 10.30 am. This is so that we can prepare for our next guests. If you would like to enquire about a different change-over day - particularly out of high season, ask us.

Can we book for less than a week at a time? Yes - for three nights or more so long as they fit within a Saturday to Saturday slot. We consider 10 night bookings for example too. Ask us and we will see what can be arranged.

We don't speak French and we have not been to France before. Will we manage? You will find that many local employees speak some English. Normandy has been a favourite destination for British people for many years. You will be helped and made very welcome. Normans are very friendly people. Supermarket shopping is easy! You just pick up or point! You will find driving a more pleasant experience since all roads are so much emptier than ours. We find French sign-posting very good too.

Are you wheel-chair accessible?           Unfortunately not. You could get into the livingroom/kitchen but there would be no way to access the bedroom or shower-room. The sofa is a comfortable M & S two seater only.We tried to think of a way of improving accessibility but did not have the scope to extend or change things enough.

Can I bring my dog or cat?  We prefer not to take animals.

Are you small-children/infant friendly? Well, we like them! But the cottage is not large enough for more than a couple who will sleep together!.

Can you drink the water? Yes - and it's good tasting water too.

How do I make a reservation? Ring us on 01978 721249, mobile 07814345040 or email j.pharrison@tiscali.co.uk through our 'Contact Us' page, to enquire about availability first. From May to the end of September we may often be on 0033 231 66 95 83 in France. We can then send you a booking form or you might prefer to write us a letter.

What forms of payment do you accept? Cheques or through Paypal.

Did your area figure in WW11?  The lower bocage area was liberated by the Americans on 8th August 1944. On that day our house saw first German soldiers and later GIs pass through it. Local residents were warned to leave and fled or hid for several days. Some near-by towns, such as Sourdeval and Vire were virtually obliterated

WW1? No, that was the north eastern.part of France, really.

Can we hire bicycles? Yes - in Vire - though if you are short like us you could loan our mountain bikes!

Can we bring DVDs? Yes, bring your own or we also have a supply you could look through and borrow.

Do you advertise elsewhere?   Yes, we have advertised with Chez Nous - in their brochure and on-line  (www.normandycottage4two.com)  - since we began 9 years ago. Our rates/conditions are exactly the same and you can find us by reference number 12591.
